During this assignment he fell in love with Alaska and her frontier lifestyle. In 1962 he was stationed at Fort Wainwright where he protected the skies over Fairbanks, Eielson Air Force Base and Fort Wainwright during the Cold War. Immediately thereafter he was selected to serve as a Warrant Officer and again quickly rose through the ranks to earn the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 4. He rose through the ranks and achieved the rank of Master Sergeant in only 12 years. He was at the top of his class in all of his professional development courses and received numerous awards and decorations for excellence. 50 caliber machine gun, Skysweeper 75mm Air Defense anti-aircraft gun, Nike Ajax anti-aircraft missile and finally the nuclear capable Nike Hercules anti-aircraft missile. He served as an Air Defense Artilleryman and mastered the Quadmount. He returned to civilian life but missed the mission orientation of a soldier's life and again enlisted in the army. At Cannelton (IN) High School he met his wife-to-be, Sharron Ann Kinghan, fell deeply in love and remained married for 68 years until her death in 2019 in Anchorage.In 1951 Billy was sworn into the U.S Army and served honorably for two years. Badger was born in Cooter, Missouri in 1930 and grew up in Southern Indiana along the banks of the Ohio river. Badger passed peacefully surrounded by his 5 sons and family.
